Why Value Always Precedes Wealth

Seth Godin has this to say about value

“There are three ways to add value

Tasks, decisions, and initiation…

Doing, choosing, and starting…

Each of the three adds value, but one is more prized than the others.

Tasks are set up for you. Incoming. You use skill and effort to knock em down one at a time and move to the next one.

Decisions often overlap with tasks. There are alternatives, and you use knowledge and judgment to pick the best one.

And initiation is what happens when you start something out of nothing, break the pattern, launch the new thing and take a leap.

When we think about humans who have made change happen, institutions who have made a difference, cultural shifts that have mattered, we must begin with initiation.”

On a recent trip diving in the crystal-clear waters of the Gulf of Mexico whilst staying in a wonderful hotel on the island of Cozumel I got to experience an example of the third type of value creation – initiation – from an unexpected source and it inspired me to share this core premise of wealth creation…

Value always precedes wealth.

Find ways to add value, preferably of the third kind and you’ll be well on your way to living a wealthy life.

Watch this video now…

After many days wondering who my mystery value creator was I managed to track her down…

Meet Guilermina – Value Creator Extraordinaire

Ann in relaxed holiday mode with Guilermina the creator of the magical towel critters – Cozumel, Mexico

When I finally got to meet Guilermina and thank her for all the joy she has given me, I really appreciated the next iteration of the cycle of value. In order to full receive the value being offered and keep the value expanding the receiver needs to acknowledge the value received and consciously express appreciation for it.

By seeking her out to say thank you, she got to feel my joy and see the impact her actions had on me and I got to see in that in turn she got huge joy out of doing this.

This is the glorious cycle of value expansion – when you seek to add value and expand value, you cannot not get massive value in return.

I really encourage you to ask yourself today, and every day…

“What initiation value-add did I engage in yesterday?”

“How am I going to add value today and in which areas of my life?”

“How about tomorrow?”

In the comments below I would love you to leave me a comment and let me know:

  • Where can you add value to something today that could add a monetary benefit for you down the line?
  • What is something small that you could do without it costing you any money or even a lot of time that could add value to your team around you or to your family?
  • Which of the amazing towel critters made by Guilermina which I showed in the video is your favorite?

Thanks as always for reading, watching and sharing so generously and for choosing to master this key ingredient money and live your value packed life.

Big love

We just love to dive as a family! Our three children started when they were 10 years old. Their first dives were in Mozambique. It is so special to share the magic kingdom of the ocean with our children. Each one has their own unique look out on a dive and when we are on the boat riding back to the beach, it is precious to hear what they have seen. Liezl sees so much detail – she loves the nubies and I cannot believe how many she sees. Verdun is my caretaker and guide – I have to descend slower with my ears and he is now my dive buddy. He has a keen eye and will make sure I see all the hidden treasures. Jean-Louis is an adventurer and moves fast to see as much as possible – he keeps Dad busy. Our dream is explore destinations where we can keep experiencing this amazing wonder world.

For me the Maldives remains the most beautiful place – we went their for our honeymoon. Just like you, our housekeeper decorated our bed with flowers and folded towels. I would love to go back to the snap-crackle world.

Thanks for your inspiration & mentorship. It keeps me motivated and committed!

I’m definitely going to look again at my Credit Card. I always pay it out at the end of but I always over spend on so too much of my income is used to pay it out, so obviously I have not got the self discipline

Hi Ann, I loved your video and got a laugh out of those towels. I was on a cruise and our room attendant also made Swans and all sorts of things, it was such fun. I think Charity is a great way of adding value to people lives or to Animals lives – its a good start anyway. Mexico looks fabulous!

I can start viewing everything that I got around me in my life (things, people, nature, elements, situations and conversations) as deeply important, valuable part of my learning
Journey and as something that is a gift from God that otherwise wouldn’t be there if God didn’t care for me.
